ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Janet Waage Lingren EdD., LMHP

"I know what I will be when I grow up!  I will be a writer!"  I was 8 years old when I declared what I knew deep in my heat to be true.  My Mother declared her immediate concern that I might write something which would embarrass the family!  I was dedicated to the task of pleasing my Mother and explored journalism as an acceptable alternative. Herb and I were in a journalism class together at Iowa State College, when we met!  My Major changed from Home Economics and Journalism to Home Economics Education and we were married the next summer.  I taught for one year and then became completely immersed in our very own Child Development project!   I  continued to 'write' in my head:  books about Child Development which took the parents beyond preparing the first child for the birth of the second to the third and fourth child.  I was also writing a novel in my head about a young woman who had been raised, like everyone else, to believe that she was a robot.  She breaks out of the mold, discovering she has a mind of her own with aspirations which went far beyond her prescribed life as a wife and mother.  My youngest child was two years old before I sat down again with paper and pen!  Those books never made it to the typewriter but I lived them.
